Surgical Art
Two surgeons and a photographer combined their skills to produce the images you see below. Reconstructive surgery attempts to restore damaged bodies and faces. Cosmetic surgery attempts to undo normal changes that happen because of aging or our genetic makeup.
Throughout time and across cultures, there have been variations in what people perceive as an "ideal" body and face. What we consider "attractive" in the US today might not be as desirable elsewhere. Beauty already exists in everyone but in our youth oriented society the aging changes or significant deviations from the "normal" as we define it are considered unacceptable.
The happiness we give patients when we restore their body or face to something they never had or they lost with aging, motivates us to push ourselves and always try to achieve the best possible surgical results.
Melinda Norris managed to capture the "end result" of surgeries performed by Dr. Stephanides and Dr. Retief, from perfect angles with her art of lights and shadows.
